Job Description

The role of US English teacher is an exciting opportunity to help students grow as readers and writers, while working with a team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about facilitating the success of every individual student.

Responsibilities: 

  • Teaching small group English classes (up to six students) for grades 9-12, with a focus on building skills in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing

  • Creating individualized academic goals for students; collecting data and reporting progress on goals

  • Providing targeted intervention for students in reading comprehension and writing strategies; supporting students with work completion

  • Contributing professional expertise to support plans for Sulam students who are included in general education English classes

  • Communicating with students and parents regarding progress and performance

  • Participating in team meetings, supervisory meetings, parent-teacher

    conferences, professional development days, and other school-related events

    and activities

  • Completing documentation such as report cards and Formal Education Plans

    (FEPs)

Qualifications and characteristics: 

  • Master’s degree in Education; Special Education strongly preferred

  • Minimum of three years classroom teaching experience

  • Experience teaching high school English; providing reading and writing support

    to diverse learners

  • Knowledge of special education, teaching methods and practices

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills

  • Confidence and experience managing and responding to student behaviors in a

    supportive manner, both proactively and reactively

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Organizational and time management skills

  • Collaborative working style; a “team player”

  • High emotional intelligence and maturity

  • Flexibility to adapt to circumstances and challenges in the moment

  • Positive energy and enthusiasm; passionate commitment to inclusion and

    educational excellence
