A Shearim Goodbye
A beautiful sendoff for our Shearim students, Elana and Moishe, as well as our Division Chair, Beth Schoen. The students showcased what they've learned through multiple presentations, and we got to hear from a number of their incredible teachers.
Sulam Receives $1M Gift
Sulam has received the major gift from Ms. Lenore A. England, a philanthropist born and raised in Washington, DC. Ms. England has dedicated this major gift toward an innovative initiative to attract individuals into the noble field of special education. Through the STAR initiative, Sulam teachers will be reimbursed appropriately for their excellent work, given access to high level professional development, and certification through accredited institutions.
Mazel Tov to Yair Reich!
Sulam student Yair Reich made a siyum on March 8, 2022. He was celebrating the completion of all of (Talmudic Tractate) Sefer Moed and is two years into Daf Yomi. What a remarkable accomplishment. Mazel Tov, Yair!

Dr. Debra Drang, Director of Special Education, and Rabbi Eli Perles, Judaic studies special education teacher, collaborate to write article for The Lookstein Center’s Jewish Educational Leadership Journal
Dr. Drang and Rabbi Perles wrote an article about the barriers to learning Talmudic text that exist for many students, and provide creative methods for both anticipating and breaking down those barriers.
announcing sulam@jds: a transformative and inclusive day school experience
Sulam and Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School (CESJDS) are thrilled to announce the launch of a three year pilot inclusion program for students with diverse learning needs at the primary grades level (grades 1-4). The program, called Sulam@JDS, is an innovative model where students with learning differences receive the highly specialized support they need while attending a rigorous, pluralistic independent Jewish day school. While we will accept applicants to all four grades, we are looking to launch this new program with two cohorts in two different grades. We will begin taking inquiries for the program on January 17, 2022.

Abby Schick Joins Sulam as Director of Development
Abby’s professional background includes diverse work experience across a variety of educational settings and not-for-profit organizations.
Most recently, in her role as Community Engagement Associate at Beauvoir, The National Cathedral Elementary School, she worked in the Office of Institutional Advancement. In that capacity, she cultivated and executed a variety of programs including donor recognition events, grandparent initiatives, parent volunteer opportunities, alumni engagement activities, and the annual scholarship auction.
