Who We Are
Sulam@JDS is an exciting new initiative between the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School (CESJDS) and Sulam. This inclusion program is for students with diverse learning needs at CESJDS Lower School, providing them with the highly specialized support they need while attending a rigorous, pluralistic independent Jewish day school.
CESJDS is a leading JK-12 pluralistic independent Jewish day school that is known for its strong academics, comprehensive program, and commitment to Jewish values, learning, and Israel. For more than twenty years, Sulam has and continues to provide expertise in special education for students with learning differences in local schools.

We provide the necessary educational, social, and emotional support to ensure success and maximize possibilities and potential.
Job Description
The Special Educator will teach and provide specialized instruction in core academic subjects; reading, writing, and math for Grades 1-5. The teacher will be responsible for assessing student learning, modifying curriculum, and leading small group instruction. The person in this position will work with experienced professionals to support the students in the program.
Responsibilities include:
Overseeing implementation of individualized student programs
Planning and providing direct instruction to students in grades 1-5 that demonstrates
understanding of best practices in special education
Developing modified curriculum and delivering instruction
Co-creating and implementing students’ social, emotional, and/or behavioral support
plans
Collecting data to monitor progress toward individual student and programmatic goals
Assisting in the development of Formal Education Plans, progress reports, and report cards
Communicating regularly with all stakeholders – parents, students, educators
Qualifications and characteristics:
Master’s degree in Special Education
Minimum 5 years classroom teaching experience
Expertise in special education, teaching methods and practices
Experience teaching reading, math and writing; training in a research-based multisensory intervention method is strongly preferred
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Collaborative working style; a “team player”
High emotional intelligence and maturity; ability to navigate complex dynamics and nuanced situations
Flexibility to adapt to circumstances and challenges in the moment
Positive energy and enthusiasm; passionate commitment to inclusion and educational excellence
