Job Description
Sulam Upper School seeks a dedicated and experienced Study Skills Teacher with a strong background in executive functioning to join our supportive and collaborative educational team. This role is integral to fostering student success, focusing on enhancing students’ organizational, time management, and self-regulation skills. This position is designed for a committed educator with a passion for equipping students with the skills needed to succeed both academically and beyond. The ideal candidate will provide direct support to students, work collaboratively with colleagues, and contribute to an environment that respects each learner’s unique needs and abilities.
Responsibilities:
Direct Instruction: Teach executive functioning and study skills to high school students, addressing areas such as goal setting, task initiation, organization, planning, time management, and memory strategies.
Individualized Support: Develop personalized plans for homework and school work completion, working to build students’ self-advocacy, resilience, and academic skills.. • Classroom Integration: Collaborate with classroom teachers to support the integration of study skills into academic courses, ensuring students can effectively apply skills acro disciplines.
Progress Monitoring: Assess and document student growth and adjust strategies to support ongoing improvement through our FEP ( Formal Educational Plan) process . Provide regular feedback to students and communicate updates to families and the broader support team. Monitor and support homework completion through the lens of executive functioning.
Collaboration with Team: Work closely with Sulam’s upper school special educators and faculty, and instructional assistants to provide cohesive support that reinforces executive functioning across students’ academic programs.
Family Engagement: Communicate with families to foster a collaborative partnership in each student’s progress, offering insight and guidance on how to support executive functioning home.
Qualifications and characteristics:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology,Social Work or a related field (Master’s degree preferred
• Experience: Demonstrated experience teaching executive functioning or study skills to adolescents, preferably within a special education or inclusive setting.
• Expertise: Strong understanding of executive functioning challenges and strategies, especially for high school students.
• Skills: Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work well as part of a team, showing empathy and adaptability in a fast-paced environment. • Commitment: A passion for supporting diverse learners and promoting a growth mindset culture. Familiarity with Jewish educational values is a plus but not required.
